Fosse singers perform at Orange Unlit

About Us

Fosse Singers was formed in 2007, so we are a young choir (Before you collectively add up our ages !).

We meet on Wednesdays during term time at the Fosse Neighbourhood Centre, Mantle Road, Leicester, from 7-8:45pm.

We perform a wide range of contemporary material from folk, to pop, to spirituals, to jazz, songs from the shows, and light classical, and welcome suggestions from members.

Our spring term starts on Wednesday 18th January 2012. New members are most welcome and are advised to arrive at 6:45pm.

FAQs.

Where do you rehearse?

We rehearse at the Fosse Neighbourhood Centre, a well signed and easy to find converted red brick school building on Mantle Road, which is between Fosse Road North, and Tudor Road, in Leicester's West End. There are two car parks, as well as street parking.

What are the fees and costs?

The fees are £50 a term or £30 for concessions, which includes over 60's, those in receipt of benefits and students. The fees cover hall hire, conductor and pianist time, music etc. For non formal performances we wear red T shirts with the Fosse Singers logo which cost £7 and for all performances we use choir folders which cost £6 to buy or £10 deposit to hire. Cheques should be made payable to Fosse Singers Ltd. In May 2011 we are very excited to be flying to Sweden to sing as part of our Swedish choral exchange. The cost of this is still to be finalised.

I don't read music, will this be a problem?

Lots of our members had never sung with a choir before and don't consider themselves as 'readers'. We provide you with rehearsal MP3s so you can listen to your part and practise at home or in the car. Most members find this really helps and over time their eyes and ears train together to follow sheet music. We also offer a termly music theory introduction class to help you understand what all those dots mean.

'Firstly I must say I was hesitant to come at first. My daughter gave me the cut out from the Leicester Mercury some 3-4 weeks back. I have been retired from work since March 08 and despite 18 months of holidaying etc I now want to meet new friends and what better way than a choir?
Upon turning up you soon made me welcome putting me next to John who was very helpful and I soon picked up the basics of reading sheet music ( I think!) I really enjoyed singing as part of the team and wish to be considered for all future rehearsals & events if possible. See you next week.'

'Just a quick email to say thanks to all for being so welcoming last night. Having never sung in a choir before or with any prior knowledge of reading music I thought I might have been more daunted than I was and that's down to the warm welcome I received from the blokes, and girls. Can't wait to be there again next Wednesday with my voice in tow.'

'I really enjoy the challenge of singing with the choir. The rehearsals give me 2 hours a week where I switch off from everything else, which is a great way to destress.'
